This is for reference for people who are interested in moving here who are curious about the size of the different communities in the metro area.

The cities will be listed by county, and will include the city's current population (2010 Census), as well as its 2000 population, growth rate, and raw growth number. I will also include the distance (courtesy of mapquest) between the city and Downtown Nashville, as well as approximate driving time.

This thread can also be used for discussion about which communities are growing, and which will be likely to continue to grow or could potentially grow in the future.

I included the 13 counties in Nashville's Metropolitan Statistical Area (Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Macon, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, Wilson), plus Bedford, Marshall, Maury, and Montgomery Counties (peripheral area of interest).

Thanks!

I figure this can be used as a reference for people who are looking for a town of a certain size or certain distance from town. Might be easier to narrow the choices for some.

And people, feel free to add on information or discussion to this thread. It doesn't have to be purely statistical.

Franklin (and especially) Brentwood have a lot more money than Clarksville and Murfreesboro...and, well anywhere else in the area. There are some pretty nice places in all of the larger towns...but not on the scale you will see in Williamson County.

And Clarksville and Murfreesboro have been among the biggest population gainers for the past 20 years. But they aren't exactly suburbs, either (especially Clarksville). While Clarksville has some commuters to the Nashville area, it's a big enough town and far enough away to have its own draws, namely Fort Campbell, a very large army post a little NW of Clarksville.

Murfreesboro is a little closer to Nashville, and a little more connected (via Smyrna & La Vergne)...but it's also a college town in its own right (Middle Tennessee State University) and has a number of other large employers in town.

I would say that both of these cities retain a little more of a separate identity from Nashville than Brentwood or Franklin do.
