Hey everyone. I've been lurking here for awhile gathering all the information I can. You all are extremely helpful!

I will be moving to Nashville in May to attend Belmont University. I feel like I've been searching for apartments forever now and it's all starting to run together. I have a few different places in mind that I like but I'm looking for advice on Polo Park Apartments. They are off Lebanon Pike on Jackson Downs Blvd. I'm not familiar with that area and was wondering about safety and those things. Shopping and nightlife aren't too important since I will most likely be driving into downtown for that type of thing.

This complex doesn't seem to be too far out of town and they seem to be nice apartments. Reviews are mixed which can be expected for any place so I try not to rely on those too much. I would like to be closer to downtown and Belmont but my budget won't really allow me to rent in those areas just yet. I'm looking at a max of about $700 a month to start.

Any information on that specific area would be greatly appreciated and most helpful as well as any other suggestions you might have.

Thank you.

I have some friends that live in Polo Park. They like it there, but are looking to move out, to look for their first house. As far as safety goes, you should be fine. You'll be within easy walking distance to most of your shopping needs (food, etc), at the newly remodeled super Target. There is also a popular greenway within walking distance. Depending on what time of day you'll be going to class, it should take you somewhere between 20-40 mins to get to Belmont.

Thank you so much for the input Griz. I really appreciate it.

Is 20-40 minutes pretty average for travel time on Lebanon Pike? I'm assuming it has it's everyday rush hour stop and go?

Also, is the drive into town on the safe side? With that I mean, it's not going to take me through any rough neighborhoods is it? I live off Google Maps but you can only tell so much online ya know? A main concern would be driving home at night and whatnot. I don't want to be uncomfortable every time I leave my apartment.

Again, thank you for your response.

My pleasure.

This is the route that I would take:
Google Maps

I don't know anyone that would consider that an unsafe drive, even at night.

I think that you would be safe at Polo Park, but other than that, I don't see the appeal of those apartments for a Belmont student at all.

$700 is a decent amount of money to throw toward rent in Hillsboro Village, especially with a roommate. Who wants a 30 minute commute if you don't have to? Roommates are not ideal, I get that, but at the same time if you lived in the neighborhood where you were going to school it seems like you would have a much better time here in Nashville. Anybody can pretty much put up with anything for 6 months, sign a short term lease somewhere near the college, give yourself a chance to get to know the neighborhood & then settle in & have fun.
