We definitely do get relatively cold winters. We're not Minnesota, but it does get cold for prolonged periods of time. Highs in the low 20s (like today) for a week or more are not uncommon. Having this much winter precipitation is unusual, however. People who relocate can sometimes be surprised that we do get cold winters. We definitely get 4 seasons here...and while winter here isn't as extreme as other places, it is still winter.

As far as other things to look forward to:

Nashville Sounds, Vanderbilt Football (don't laugh...), Hot Chicken festival on July 4th in East Park, 4th of July fireworks downtown at Riverfront Park, Frist Fridays at the Frist Center, the money tourists spend at the CMA festival, tourists leaving town after the CMA festival ends , Tennessee History Days in October at the Bicentennial Mall, Fall Frontier Days and Christmas at the Fort at Mankser's Fort in Goodlettsville, Goodlettsville and Nashville's Nightime Christmas Parades.

Dog Day in September in Nashville is always fun if you're a dog lover.

Most of my activities involve my dog, so fall and winter is when we have most of our fun. We don't do much in the spring because of ticks, and with most of this past summer being unusually hot, it was way too hot and humid to do anything. Fall is my favorite, although this past year we really didn't get much of a fall. We went straight from running summer a/c to winter heating. Winter temps started very early. Really missed having a good fall, and this winter has been unusually cold and snowy. We have very cold days during the winter every year, but usually not such extreme cold temps for such a long time. And usually not this much snow either.

I also enjoy going to Land Between the Lakes for hiking and fishing in the fall and on mild days in the winter. It's a great place for wildlife photography too.
