I don't think there are any hotels in that area. Outside of the restaurants and shopping area, it's all residential. You'd be better off driving yourself and parking behind the 3 Crow Bar (big parking lot there) or getting a cab if you plan on drinking.

The closest hotels I can think of are the Stadium Inn (which I wouldn't book for an enemy) or the Ramada next to LP Field (where the Titans play). Neither are within walking distance.

Here's an inexpensive B & B:
East Nashville Bed and Breakfast, 5 Points Bed & Breakfast, Located in Historic Lockhead Springs in East Nashville, TN

There might be more in the area. Staying in one of the historic homes in the neighborhood would be a great way to experience that area.

I didn't think about a B&B. Good call. I'd rep you if I could...

Top of Woodland B&B looks pretty nice and is within walking distance of 5 Points. The last link looked more like someone's actual home...which some people are okay with. This looks more like an inn using a historic home as its setting.

I saw that one, but I don't know East Nashville well enough to know what areas are close and safe enough to walk between.

I am always thinking of B & Bs, unfortunately most of my travel is with 3 rugrats in tow, so B & Bs are rarely an option.

On a side note, I was in 12 South today for an appt. and saw was a For Rent sign in front of a house. I think they were renting the guest house behind the main house. It was right beside 12 Ave. and that park on one side, the cute business/restaurant area on the other side. Walkable to Belmont and the cute little grocery store/deli there. I was really tempted to stop and get the number for the next person who asked about affordable rentals in trendy areas. But I thought the owner would think it was really strange to get the info for an internet group! lol

I saw another B&B in E Nashville but it wasn't really walkable. I wouldn't feel safe walking it at night anyways. I think I might have to check that Top of Woodland place out...looks like a nice place to get away for a romantic weekend.

And I know what you mean about people maybe being weirded out by the internet forum idea. I have tried explaining them to my wife and she thinks its odd that I chat with people all across the country...and world...without laying eyes on them.

But it's good to know that there are cheap rentals in that 12South area. Good work!

The Big Bungalow Bed & Breakfast - Nashville, TN

I live in Edgefield and there's a B&B the next street over from me called The Big Bungalow. It's walkable to 5 Points (as I walk it all the time). I don't particularly like venturing around the neighborhood at night...but I walk a lot during daylight hours. It's not that it's particularly scary...there just seems to be more troublemakers roaming around at night.
