I am a student about to attend SAE within two months. I move in to my apartment in the middle of September and have a few questions just to clear up some curiosity.

1. Since I am attending a college, will I need to apply for residency?
2. Do I need to get a duplicate license? (I currently reside in Glasgow, KY)
3. What areas should I stay away from?
4. How is parking and walking around down town?
5. Are there a lot of places I can go listen to music at the age of 18?

Thanks for help in advance!

Parking obviously depends on where you will be living. I would guess there are lots of places that are only 18+, but I can't help with any specifics since I'm over the age of 21 and don't really know which ones are 18+ or 21+.

You don't need to get a license or anything as long as you are still maintaining a permanent residence, I assume at your parent's address, in Kentucky.

Well, are you JUST going to go to school and go back to Kentucky? Or are you planning to MOVE to Nashville after school? Will you have a bunch of stuff in your parents house? Have you had a job in KY and paid taxes there? If you get a TN license, you must surrender your KY license. Are your parents paying for school? Do they use you as a deduction on their tax return? If so, I think you can say you are a resident of KY. It's a $50 fine if you don't get a TN license after moving here but I think you could argue your student status and intent not to remain in the state. Or call the Department of Motor Vehicles and simply ask! Here is their number:

After you're here 6 months you are considered permanent and expected to get TN license and switch your tags to TN, but if you 're a student with a student ID, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Okay. I will be in school for 9 months starting September 27th. I move into my apartment on September. I plan on staying AFTER school is over. I also want to get a job when I move (fast food, bus boy, etc.).

Do I need a TN drivers license, plate, residency, etc.?

If you are a full time student and your parents are still declaring you a dependent on their tax return, then you are a resident of Kentucky.

I thought they couldn't declare me after the age of 18?

"Age — must be under the age of 19 at the end of the tax year, or under the age of 24 if a full-time student for at least five months of the year, or be permanently and totally disabled at any time during the year."

Okay, thanks for that info but since my mom's an accountant, I asked her and she said as long as I'm a student I can be declared. So I can get a job without being a resident?
