Punk/New Waver here. I remember hearing the Pistols and Ramones in the late 70's. I turned 13 in 1980. Next thing you knew, I was all about Joy Division, Klaus Nomi, Iggy, Damned, Gang of Four, Siouxsie. Then in college, New Order (Ian .. sniff sniff), Smiths, then in grad school, Charlatans, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays ... I couldn't tell you what's popular now.
I do have to admit, I have some guilty pleasure music, love songs Guns n Roses, Europe, .38 Special, Rundgren, Canned Heat. Shhhh, don't tell anyone, they'll take away my punk rocker card.
If you like New Wave a lot like I do I would recommend the "Tune In" Smart Phone App. It has a station called "RADIO IO 80s New Wave" that is just awesome.
Some stuff I'm sure people haven't heard or haven't heard in awhile. Got a lot of airplay on the R & B charts, but almost all of these didn't make a huge dent in the pop charts. Plus 80s R & B is often overlooked, especially by people who call themselves 80s lovers. Dig into the 80s R & B collection, it's good stuff, and it'll diversify your 80s experience.
I'd never heard of this. Was this a side project during Power Station?
It was around that time, yes. I know that "9 1/2 Weeks" came out in early 1986 and "Notorious" didn't come out until late 1986 so I assume DD were still doing their side projects when he recorded and released this for the movie.
