David Soul of Starsky and Hutch fame as well as the star of one of my favorite old movies called Salem's Lot.

Dont give up on my Baby is a great ol song. He can sing as well as act.
He had way more singing success in Great Britian but still got plenty of airplay on soft rock radio stations in the USA.

YouTube - Don't give up on us, baby - David Soul slide

Rick Nelson didn't "try"; he did indeed make it. And then some.

My first thought, too, was David Soul. I hope you're not offended, Desertsun41, when I say how much I thought that song sucked!!!

Shelly Fabares with "Johnny Angel," and her co-star from The Donna Reed Show, Paul Petersen, tried a few singles.

And speaking of ex-Mouseketeers, what about Johnny Crawford, who was also Mark McCain in The Rifleman? He had a few singles as well in the mid-60s.
