I like this one by Silverchair from 2007 for its homage to the modern art movement of the early 20th century with examples of Da Da, De Stijl, and Surrealism. Among the many famous images are those of Magritte's with the bowler hats and apples, the melting clocks of Dali, and the mustached Mona Lisa of Duchamp....I love all of that. The song was not well received because a lot of Silverchair's fans were from their teenage 90s grunge days and they couldn't wrap their heads around the new direction they were taking. It's a shame really because "Young Modern" was a very good album.
This next one by Gotye is a particular favourite, it's laden with symbolism and metaphor but I won't give my interpretation, it's better to work these things out for yourself if you have that kind of mind. Great animation by Brendon Cook.
Arcadia were an offshoot of Duran Duran in the mid 80s and this video is another one that is laden with symbolism. It's kind of a symbolic journey through their roller coaster ride to fame and how it comes to feel like a beautifully decorated prison. It's about changing and growing, saying goodbye to the past and embracing the future...
