Any Rolling Stones fans out there ?
They've been rolling along for almost 46 years now

My top 5 Stones songs are ....

GIMME SHELTER ...IMO this is the perfect Stones song ...
only 3 chords but what song ...a powerful menacing tune
written by Keith Richards in Sept. 1968, recorded in early 1969, with Merry Clayton's amazing vocals were added Oct 1969 Elektra Studios in Los Angeles where Let it Bleed album was mixed. Perfect tune for Altamont.

STREET FIGHTING MAN ....from Beggars Banquet ...it was first relased as a single (US only) in AUG. 1968 ...it was banned on many radio stations (Chicago Aug '68 riots were going on) ...Keith recorded his guitar and Charlie's "toy" drums into a portable cassette deck then later added other tracks at Olympic Studios including Nicky Hopkins amazing piano work and Dave Mason playing a strange indian instrument during the fade out

CITADEL ...from Their Satanic Majesties Request ...love the guitar and great mellotron work by the brilliant Brian Jones ...the typical "buried" in the mix vocals lyrics have to do with their 1967 drug bust

STRAY CAT BLUES ...what can I say, love those screechy guitars and those naughty lyrics ...I read the guitar sound was inspired by Velvet Underground's song "Heroin"

JUMPIN' JACK FLASH ...this song put the Stones back on map ...they hooked up with Jimmy Miller and never looked back (at least for 5 albums or so) Rumor has it Bill Wyman came up with riff and Mick and Keith then "stole" it

Regarding Street Fighting Man, LRUA, the same thing happened in Denver. I remember when the song appeared on the top 50 survey and hearing it a few times. It was only on the charts for a few weeks and dropped like a stone, disappearing off the charts. My other 4 favorite Stones songs would be Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow?, Rip That Joint (from Exile On Main Street), 19th Nervous Breakdown, and Jumping Jack Flash. Good point on Stray Cat Blues; Beggars Banquet is just an awesome LP!

Too many to mention when 3 albums - "Beggar's Banquet", "Sticky Fingers", and "Let it Bleed" are 3 of the best albums in rock history.

Again I will go with the obscure tracks that I like and avoid the radio staples:

Something Happened To Me Yesterday - from "Between the Buttons", the whole album, which is like Dylan after he visited hell, is full of hidden treasures. This, one of the first songs about an LSD trip.

20,000 Light Years from Home - from "Satanic Majesties Request". The album itself is an anomoly, but this song is gold.

No Expectations - live version from "Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus". Brian Jones last contribution to the Stones is recorded here (also in an excellent video). Note the shaky vulnerable slide guitar work, not perfect, but emotional as hell - represents everything about him and his state of mind at that moment. For 3 minutes, he escaped his drug haze and put everything he had left into that slide guitar.

Dead Flowers - from "Sticky Fingers". Interesting song. This is Jagger's answer to the Altamonte concert disaster and points the finger at us, our decadence, not his.

Moonlight Mile - also from "Sticky Fingers". Perfectly represents the end of the 60's. Here Jagger is purposely strung-out, tired, dissolusioned. Mick Taylor added the strings. Epic song.

Let it Loose - from "Exile at Main Street". Because Exile is a double album it's full of obscure songs you don't hear to often. So many good songs here. Let it Loose is my favorite.
