Not sure what you are referring to, but the roots of punk began with the Who and the Kinks. Then there were bands like the Fuggs, MC5, The NY Dolls and to a lesser extent the Velvet Underground who were all pre-punk and planted the seeds for the movement which started in NY in 1975. Not in England and of course kiddies way before Green Day!

An cool band and an interesting story. Personally I think they sound like a mix of early metal and the proto-punk(like their fellow Detroit bands the Stooges or MC5) that would lead into the New York punk scene of the mid-70s. Though at times they almost presage hardcore punk(albeit pretty melodic side of it). Great band that was just a few years ahead of the curve and probably in the wrong location at the time. Had they made it to Lower Manhattan playing CBGB's in the late 70s they could've been a real notable act of that period. Interesting that they ended up playing reggae in Vermont, similar to the fact the that the most notable black punk band ever--the Bad Brains--played a lot of reggae as well.

It's cool that every so often a musician who was doing something a little different for their time, but was completely ignored gets highlighted and gets a little recognition after the fact. The Monks was another band like that, a bunch of American GIs in Germany who dressed like monks and played a brutal variety of garage rock that also was sort of punk rock before there was punk in the 1960s.
