I love 80s and 90s music and pop. Some of the stuff like Chicago, Pretenders, 90s indie pop, but 80s pop and 90s chart pop.

I find when I listen to current music, I never ever hear a song that catches me that I want to listen to again. There have been a few songs. I like Train as a group.

But I feel like an old fogey. Everything I listen to is from before 2000 more or less. I need some new music.

Recommend me some new bands for a guy who is stuck 2 decades earlier.

You sound a lot like me. The other day I caught one of those top 100 countdowns. It was best songs of the 2000's. I found there was a huge amount of rap, hip hop and R&B. The '90's was more adult contemporary or grunge, imo. I miss the new wave of the '80's. Nowadays I find myself listening to Train, Coldplay, Daughtry.

I can honestly recommend very few.

If you are into The Pretenders, I think you might like Gaslight Anthem. A good combination of Bruce Springsteen like "heartland rock" and punk.

There is an Irish band named 2 Door Cinema Club whose songs are very catchy and melodic. Think The smiths teamed up with New Order and released an album (I think that has happened actually!)...

As far as mainstream goes, I'd say the Killers are the U2s of this generation. They are about to release a new album named Battleborn, so you can look forward to that. I am!

...some people say music sucks nowadays, but to me is not that the music sucks, but there is just so much out there that one wouldn't know where to start. I usually find myself reverting back to The Cure, Morrissey and Rush, my favorite artists....

Good luck in your pursue!
