This gets weird, but in 1952, 3 years before Rock around the Clock, Bill Haley and the Comets' came out with "Rock this Joint"...and the guitar line is very close to the Rock around the Clock guitar riff..so, even IF Bill Haley really had the first rock song, it wasnt even Rock around the Clock..it was Rock this Joint three years earlier, with the same bandmembers..

I stand corrected..that guitar line is EXACTLY like rock around the clock..in fact, rock around is just a reworked version, very slightly, of rock this joint..

More really hard rock from the comets in 1951, even earlier..same style of rock guitar playing again, already in 1951..I can totally see why the Comets are considered the first rock...

From about*com: Oldies music,

For decades, many rock fans claimed Rock Around The Clock (1954) by Bill Haley And The Comets as the first rock and roll record,
but that was merely the first rock record to enter the national consciousness (i.e., become a hit), unless you count the more restrained
doo-wop of the Penguins' Earth Angel (1954) (which was actually released after "Rock Around The Clock" but became a hit in much less
time). After a while, rock critics won out over popular opinion, enshrining Elvis' cover of That's All Right, Mama (1954) as the originator.
But as rhythm and blues artists of the 50s started to claim their rightful heritage as midwifes of rock's birth, other, earlier records began
to surface in the public's mind: chief among them Jackie Brenston's Rocket 88 (1951), now generally considered the first rock song.

There were literally thousands of songs like rocket 88 at that time, and even before..rock critic wisdom really cant pin that title on one song, when so many others at the time were just as or more rocking, and some rockin ones came earlier that rocket 88..and they never mention the country influences, ala country boogie of the later 40's and western swing..
