You enjoyed it and thought it was good because:

1. No Soundtrack
2. Someone in the background banged a pot or something and made quiet noises that were hard to notice...
3. You thought the characters were annoying and that made them seem real? So you thought the acting was poor so that made it a good movie?
4. You thought the characters were "average looking"... obviously you didn't see the chest on Katie... nothing "average" about that.

This movie was terrible-- and quite possibly one of the worst horror movies ever made. Definitely the most over-rated.

My wife saw this movie with me, and she thought it was boring as well! She gets scared of everything! I'm not trying to be rude in this post, it just upsets me that people view this crap as good.

Some good horror movies that have to do with homes to check out: Poltergeist, Amityville horror (1979), The Strangers

Well, like I said, I think it has to do with personal fears. Anything involving demons gets to me -- even the truly bad films about them.

I enjoyed the films you mentioned. Amityville is classic. Poltergeist is so well exucted it gives me the chills every time -- now there's a movie where the soundtrack works! The Strangers was good, too, in comparison to most of the garbage coming out these days ... which leads me to the OP. I'm not too old for horror movies, but I really can't stand "torture porn" and contemporary shock horror. I love the old gore-fests like Dead Alive because they don't take themselves seriously, but stuff like Hostel really bothers me. Then there are a whole bunch of movies I haven't even seen, for example Dumplings and The Human Centipede, because simply reading about them has made me nauseous. (I am aware that the latter has a comedic element, but the concept is sickening). I don't know. Maybe it is an age thing and maybe I would've loved them when I was a teenager, but I doubt it. My constitution is only so strong.

I do agree with another poster who mentioned that we probably outgrow movies about people who are younger than us. At 31, I have no interest in teen slasher films! If you've seen one, you've seen 'em all -- especially the newer ones.

Agreed to an extent. I am a huge fan of the Saw franchise. But I feel like the Saw movies are definitely different than Hostel. I haven't seen Hostel and I will not watch it as I have heard it is just torture for entertainment, with no hope for the characters involved. The difference is the Saw movies actually have an ongoing (and interesting) plot, and the characters involved often survive. The Saw movies (all 7 of them), have their good ones (1, 3, 4, 6), and terrible ones (2, 5, 7).

Now the Human Centipede really freaks me out. It is a movie that made me almost want to throw up from reading the description. I haven't seen it (and also don't plan to watch it) as I don't think I could watch it without losing my dinner. I guess Hostel and Human Centipede are too extreme for me.

Different strokes for different folks-- a lot of people disagree with me about Saw and think it is "garbage." That's okay, I think everyone has a limit of gore/sickness that they can stand. With Saw you know it is fake, and the traps in it are in no way something that could realistically be made. I guess this is another reason I am able to watch it.

A lot of people thought the Exorcist was too extreme/gory/sickening to stand. I still know people who refuse to watch this movie. To me, it is probably the best horror movie of all time-- at least the most frightening.

I also have no interest in the teen slashers. Seems like they all follow the same formula-- find hot girls, have them run around screaming a bunch. Killer knocks off characters one by one. Pretty lame.

The only "teen slashers" I think I enjoyed are: Scream franchise, Friday the 13th (original).

Some other good grown up horror movies to check out: The Orphanage, Misery, Don't Look Now
