I saw this movie years ago and would very much like to know the name of it.
This is what I remember: black and white, french, a man and a woman die and meet in afterlife. They hit it off fabulously. There is some sort of bureaucracy in afterlife, and a rule that if soul-mates meet after death, they have a chance to come back to life to have a go at their relationship. This couple is returned to their bodies and they survive whatever it was that killed them originally. They find each other, but the woman is of some sort of high class in the society and the man is a low social class (I guess she is rich and he is poor). But there is more to it, because I think they were in some sort of revolution, or some sort of political struggle between those two classes... in any case, what ends up happening is that, faced with social realities, difference in class, money, political leanings and all sorts of things of this world, the couple ends up fighting and separating. I don't remember whether at the end they overcome these forces that pull them apart and stay together, or do they succumb to them and break up.
I would love to find this movie... Things that I am not certain on is that it is black & white and French - though I do remember thinking of it as "old" at the time I watched it, which was like 25-30 years ago and I really have this strong impression that it was French.
Please, if anyone knows another place where I can ask this question, in case I don't get an answer here, please let me know.
Ok, I don't know how to edit my post, but I just want to say that this question was answered on another community, and it's "Les Jeux Sont Faits" a book by Jean-Paul Sartre. It was made into a French movie in 1947. English translation of the title is "Bets are Placed" or "Chips are Down". Here is a description of the plot: Les jeux sont faits - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
