Humphrey Bogart is one of my favorite actors. I do like Clark Gable tho'. Two different types of actors. I liked the African Queen, Maltese Falcon, and the Caine Mutiny. Three different genre allowing him to be expressive in various movies. Of course, I used to think my Daddy and him looked similar!

Bogart for me. Gable was indeed a fine actor but Bogart just seemed to have the natural ability to blend into the part.

Emmanual Goldenberg better known as Edward G. Robinson was the man! By the way can anyone think of the film where he played a crippled ranch baron with the cheating wife? It was his later years in color.

Hey don't throw in Eddie Robinson or I'm gonna have to vote for him -- my fave is his send up of his gangster characters in "Brother Orchid".

Gable once commented that, if it weren't for GONE WITH THE WIND, he might not be remembered at all. Not sure that's quite true, but the fact is that Bogart was in many more "classic" movies than Gable.

My favorite Robinson film is KEY LARGO.

I also like BLACK TUESDAY, but except for some terrible dupes, that's virtually lost.

The Violent Men. With Glenn Ford and Barbara Stanwyck.

I go with Gable. He was very natural and self assured.

I remember reading a quote from Robinson once that he "detested" westerns. Aside from THE VIOLENT MEN, the only other one he made was CHEYENNE AUTUMN, replacing an ailing Spencer Tracy.

I found Gable more appealing physically and he had presence. His acting improved with time. Bogart didn't have a particularly wide range in his acting abilities but he had his own "style".

A LOT of actors had/have their own style, their own persona. Marlon Brando was one, Jimmy Stewart was another. And, God, let's not forget John Wayne whose acting seemed the same in all his flicks, but his own persona made a lot of people think that he was the greatest of all time.

Johnny Depp ~ now THAT is one actor with range!. Robin Williams, too.

Bogart is an icon.

Gable was the guy with big ears in Gone With the Wind.
