The Muppet Christmas Carol: One of the closest portrayals of the book in film, plus you had muppet gags. AWESOME!
The Santa Clause: This movie is one of the best ever and would be if not for the muppets doing a Christmas Carol. Great story and Tim Allen was awesome in the role.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: A great family movie with the established characters of the Grizwald family.
Home Alone: How can't this be included in any list of Christmas movies?
Scrooged: Another great Christmas Carol re-telling but done in modern day corporate America and Bill Murray did it right.
The Santa Clause 2: An underrated sequel to my number two about Scott Calvin finding his Mrs. Clause plus Charlie grew up.
Home Alone 2: Lost In New York: Not as good as the first but still had the heart of it (unlike the other sequels.
Jingle All The Way: Really under-rated film about the crazy gifts we need to buy for our kids.
The Santa Claus: The 1984 Dudley Moore film was good with the elf who wound up becoming a corporate toy maker who went against Santa. It's one I need to watch again sometime.
Santa's Slay: A horror movie with Bill Goldberg playing an evil Santa who is finally no longer compelled to be nice.
Honorable Mentions:
The Nightmare Before Christmas More of Halloween movie than Christmas but still a good movie and I'm not really into creepy.
8 Crazy Nights: More of a Hanukkah movie than Christmas but still really good.
Iron Man 3: Similar to Die Hard, it was set during Christmas time.
Toy Story: Only the end was Christmas but it could have made a good Christmas movie.
Now, I had heard that word at least ten times a day from my old man. He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium. A master.
My #1 Christmas movie is Miracle On 34 St.
The remake in 94
I loved being on that set, watching it unfold....
Plus Richard Attenborough was just a sweetheart
And we're in it
But what really made them special was that way back when (I'm speaking of the mid- to late-70s), was that you could only see them once per year. No one had VCRs, and I don't think these holiday specials were even available to the few people who had LaserDisc players.
So if you wanted to see, say, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, you had to have your butt in front of the television on Friday night at 7pm and watch it then and there. And then? It was gone for another twelve months!
Don't get me wrong; I have no interest in going back to those days. I love the convenient availability of video media today. But the circumstances of the time did turn the limited access to these shows into something really special.
