'....A Man For All Seasons'.....The audience would probably fall asleep in two minutes as the film starts in the theater. No gunshots, car crashes, buildings falling, aliens attacking, hi-def hyperventilating color etc. it would be like watching wax melt oh so slowly. Not even Kevin Smith who liked the film could bring'em to watch it today!...;-)...

It never got thru, it was and always has been, and always will be a rated X film and to my knowledge has never been seen on any pay movie channels other than perhaps a porno channel. Pink Flamingos was not really about pornography however, but social taboo's and to see how many gross out things they could cram into one movie. Egg producers would never allow this film to be shown, remember the retarded fat woman in the baby crib that married the egg man ? I have never seen any movie that pushed that far, ever. The chicken sex between brother and sister, and the son & mom thing, waving your dong in the park with sausage attached, the whole competition thing for title of filthiest people alive. Trailer people vs city slickers that kidnap women and lock them in their basement, and use a sex slave to impregnate them, then sell the babies to fund an heroin ring that sells dope to school children. The killing of a cop and chopping him up and eating him, raw. Eating dog poop, wiping your crotch with a steak at the meat market.

Many of the black exploitation films can't be shown because they had the N word in the title, That crazy N was one of the most successful ones, but they have shown Shaft and some of the others, but it's pretty hard to bleep out the title name if your going to air a movie, lol.

What about the Cheech and Chong movies, lol

Someone said they couldn't do "Soul Man" again, with a white guy dressing up as a black man to gain an advantage. Yet we got Robert Downey Jr. in "Tropic Thunder".

Someone else said there were too many racial stereotypes in "The Naked Prey", yet we got Ice-T in "Surviving the Game" being hunted by rich white psychos.

My choice for a movie that would never be remade is "Mondo Cane".

True about Pink Flamingos but as far as never being seen on a pay movie channel actually there was one exception...Super TV !! Super TV was one of those so-called Subscription television service that was popular back in the day when many didn't have cable or even a VCR. Super TV aired in both DC and Baltimore on channels 50 and 54 and with John Waters being so very well known in both cities at the time ( and of course he still is ) Super TV would air his films from time to time such as Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble when channels like HBO and Showtime would take a pass. Unfortunately for Super TV they only lasted for 5 years when by 1986 everyone just about either had access to HBO or Showtime or a VCR if not probably all three.

"The Spook Who Sat by the Door"

I've never seen it, but being an ex spook, the title grabbed my attention immediately. Then, I read the synopsis......and shook my head of what it would mean if they made that movie today.

WHICH ONE?

As it is, I have the 60's one, bought it during my Susannah York buying spree.

Further, it depends on how one does it. They told the story of Thomas More in "The Tudors"..........and that certainly wasn't a flop.

Most pornos from the so-called "golden age of porn" such as Deep Throat, Debbie Does Dallas, Taboo or High School Memories, porn flicks that actually had a plot ( if one would call it that ) as well as featuring a good bit of non-sexual scenes probably could not be done today. Today..well who would want to wait several minutes through scenes of a couple having dinner, riding a cable car in San Francisco or having a drink and conversation in a bar before they get to the sex scene ???

A few years ago in Palm Springs I had actually met a guy who was employed in the porn business. I can remember him telling me that when he had first started in the biz ( the early 1980s ) the plot was almost as important as the sex scenes but he also had admitted that it recent years it had became more to his viewers "..forget the plot..who cares !! Just show us the sex !!". He went where the money is.

Oh, please... just off the top of my head, both Gran Torino and Django Unchained (each of which was released since you started this silly thread) prove you completely wrong.

An easier exercise would be to list the films of today that could not be made during the era of the Hays Code. And that would be most films - that's how restrictive was the Code, with its laundry list of moral restrictions on what could and could not be depicted. There is far, far more artistic latitude today than in the past.

I listed specific movies that could not be made today and you list different movies that have very different themes than those movies. Doesn't compute. I stand by the movies I listed almost 7 years ago.

No, back then all teen movies were rated R, but now they want the PG-13 version. I watched The DUFF the other day with my daughter, and there was a lot of talk about sex but nothing like Porky's or even Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
