With anyone else in that role, the movie would have been nothing special. But the fact that it was such a 180* departure from what everyone expected from Robin Williams made it so much more unsettling and creepy.

A great film about the immigrant experience...equal doses of great manic comedy (not really Williams) and sadness...

I remember that episode, but he already had a number of dramatic performances under his belt by then. It definitely wasn't one of his earliest.
