I love Star Wars, but it helps (immensely) that I was eight years old when it came out. I'm convinced that that is the sweet spot. Old enough to appreciate the epic fantasy, too young and clueless to be aware how bad was the dialogue and some of the acting. Everything after? It was all downhill - yes, even Empire, which was where the silly Disneyesque pandering started decades before Walt's ghost got his claws in the whole shebang.
Anyway, that's not my point. What I want to say is that the lightsaber is truly one of cinemas great devices. What a mythic creation! How thrilling is the pitch of the moving blade, like some sort of lethal theremin? How primal is the sound of two energy blades clashing in combat?
The lightsabre - along with the Force, it is what breathed life into the Star Wars mythos.
Not just a remake of Star Wars, but what looks like an amateur remake of Star Wars, that is good. I can't wait for the good uses of deepfakes to become common.
You thought fanfic was a genre, wait for fanflick!
Although I could take a pass on the ritalin style of cinematography.
