One of the best films I've seen in years.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10618286/

Follows screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz's tumultuous development of Orson Welles' iconic masterpiece Citizen Kane (1941).

Watched last night. While I am far from a scholar on the Hollywood of the 30's I did recognize many of the main characters and even the actor's likeness to the actual person. Well filmed, well casted and well acted. However I have lots of questions.

Was this based on actual historical events? Was the Oscar sequence at the end actual footage?

Let me ask if I have the plot figured out. It was about the writing of the script for Citizen Cane? The basic premise is that Orson Wells hired Mankiewicz to write the script but was going take full credit for the script?

It was interesting that the segment about the California's governor's race mirrored the politics of the current Presidential election.

Just saw a great interview with Mank on Cavett from a few decades ago.
