Rocky and Adrian in ROCKY. Still one of the sweetest love stories ever put on film. And for once not played by two actors with cover-model looks. They looked like your neighbors. Their relationship defined the movie.

Good point! "On screen relationship/connection" does not necessarily restrict itself solely to romantic relationships. Thinking along those lines there are some GREAT onscreen relationships that are in no way romantic. Such as:
Jodie Foster (Clarice Starling) and Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal Lecter) in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Their relationship is the heart of the movie. They are both extremely attracted to one another on an intellectual level. Although Clarice is repulsed by Lecter on a moral level, she can't help but be attracted by his intellect.
Ben Foster / Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges / Gil Birmingham in HELL OR HIGH WATER. This movie is about brothers, the sacrifices they make for one another, and the responsibility of brotherhood. By far one of the best American movies I have seen in years.
Robert Redford and Paul Newman in BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID. I am not as ga-ga in love with this movie as everyone else. It's good, but not great. But there's no denying the great onscreen chemistry between the two leads.
All the kids in STAND BY ME. Remarkable considering that one of them was a first-time actor. But they nailed that "last summer of innocence" friendship like no one else.
Scheider, Dreyfuss, and Shaw in JAWS. The great triumvirate of American cinema. The greatest bickering heroes of all time.
