Anything by Michael Moore (I no longer like his politics, but I do like his movies)
"A Perfect Storm"
Any BBC mini-series based on real people (especially "Victoria" and "The Crown")
Anything by Ken Burns
Also gotta put forth LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI since we're including "based on true events." Neither film was 100% historically accurate, but no one made epic drama like David Lean.

Moore is a great filmmaker. But I have a hard time considering his films "documentaries." A documentarian ought to strive to tell the truth and put forth all evidence showing the truth. Moore is notorious for only including info that supports his agenda, while purposefully excluding other info that proves him wrong. Moore is not a documentarian. He's a propagandist --- albeit a very talented one.
I'm a big fan of "Zap!" and the other underground comix of the late '60s-early '70s, so I really enjoyed a Robert Crumb bio. I'd also like to see one of S. Clay Wilson.
One of my favorite and intense documentaries is Free Solo. I know the title sounds like a Star Wars spinoff but it is about a climbers attempt to climb El Capitan in Yosemite without ropes, anchors etc.
Not only is the climber at enormous risk, the film crew were in great danger as well. The suspense was real and just incredible!
