Here we are in 2019, and this film came out back when I was listening to Joan Jett and Corey Hart with my Sony Walkman. So then, am I missing anything by having not seen this film yet, or is it a film like Days of Thunder, where that its time has passed so if you haven't seen it yet, don't bother?

You're not missing much. Many films are moored in the era in which they were made, but that doesn't make them less relevant or good. But Dirty Dancing is a superficial "Patrick Swayzee does some moves" film. It's great to see, if you like modern dance and you like singin' & dancin' at the party movies (a la Grease). But ultimately it's only an okay movie, in all. I saw it years ago and remember only the seminal dance near the end.
You're missing nothing. If Thanos snapped his fingers and this movie were erased from existence, it would have no affect whatsoever. It's a bad, silly movie.
It's your typical 'grownups are morons' and 'love is grand' kind of movie with some singing and dancing. Nothing thoughtful or provoking but not bad if you just want a Young Adult feel good experience.

You mean the part about the pregnant girl who almost dies from a back alley abortion and then must be saved by "baby"s" father?

Heck, make up your own mind. Either see it or don't.
There are "product of its time genre" films many many people have seen and remember with fondness for whatever reason. If I haven't seen them already, sometimes I will just so I can appreciate the references that come up in conversation. Doesn't mean I must put them on the same pedestal as Finnigan's Wake. You never know...you might actually find something you LIKE about it; music, setting, cinematography, a character, some memory it evokes, whatever. C'mon, you don't ever have to admit if you do!
