I don't really have a particular favorite. I'm don't really like slasher flicks, but I'd much rather watch a good slasher flick than a bad monster movie. If I came up with a list of my favorite horror movies, there would be representations from most of the genres you posted.

I chose "Other" because I don't care what type of creature or threat it is, I LOVE the "Found Footage" genre the best.

Psychological (like pre-Psycho Hitchcock, or the first version of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”), or campy 50s horror (“Plan 9 from Outer Space”), or 30s classic monster films (Frankenstein, Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein). Won’t watch anything else from the category.

I like phsychological, with a survival element thrown in. The scariest horror is one that can be a realistic situation. One of my worst fears when living alone was waking up with somone standing over me.

I never revealed this, but one night it happened. About 4 AM on a rainy Fall night, I felt movement by the bed. I reached over to grab my cell phone. I turned the screen over to the source of the movenent. A large man stood there. He had a white hat, and what looked to be white overalls. A dark beard and intense eyes revealed he was covered in some sort of dust. I jumped to the other side of the bed. As we stood and faced each other, I asked what he wanted. He told me. And I was unprepared for what I heard. He said......

Spoiler
"It's time to make the donuts!!"

Those are always nice. And the Exorcist. I was thinking how these would even fit into the categories given.

THE EXORCIST, THE OMEN, and ROSEMARY'S BABY are the prime examples of the "Satanic" horror film. Definitely the best in the genre. A few should get honorable mention like DEVIL'S ADVOCATE or ANGEL HEART. But the '70s was definitely the Golden era of that genre.

THE WICKER MAN tends to get thrown into what is generally called the "folk horror" genre --- or "when hippies go bad." Other examples of this are THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, WITCHFINDER GENERAL, and THE BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW. This genre actually seems to be making a comeback in recent years with movies like MIDSOMMAR, THE WITCH, KILL LIST, WAKE WOOD, HEREDITARY, and GWEN.

Alien type films. Aliens, Signs, Fire in the Sky, Close Encounters of the Third King, Close Encounters of the Forth Kind. And the X-Files has been my favorite TV show forever.

A close second would be the ghost type horror movies, Poltergeist being the main one.
