I didn't but then I don't cry easily. I'll say this . . . there are lots of open-ended story lines and there are rumors that there may be a second movie down the road.

There are endless loose ends, as in theory the newly-married generation is the great-grandparents of adults among us. The story/ies could go on endlessly, but most of it would be depressing as the great houses and old families mostly crumble after WWII.

Therblig, you are so right. It will be interesting to see how far they stretch the Downton Abbey concept. We're in 1927 now, so I can see maybe going through the Great Depression and WWII. But then what? Guess we'll have to be patient and see where it goes.
Hertfordshire, thanks for that. Something to look forward to!
Saw this as a freebie recently. I’ve never watched the TV show, so bear that in mind.
The film struck me as being essentially a series finale rather than a clear stand-alone movie entity. I felt lost with all the characters, many of whom seemed to have a backstory it would have helped to know. There seemed to be a number of plot tendrils running simultaneously, which also got confusing.
I suspect I would have liked it much more if I had seen the show beforehand As it was, it was just kind of okay. YMMV.
Other than a nicely done period piece with a story of little consequence, I can't imagine it appealing to anyone who doesn't know the show/family history. I doubt the producers made any attempt to keep the story self-contained.
"El Camino" and "Serenity" are similar films that probably leave non-fan viewers a bit disconnected.
As DA fans, we liked it. Tears? I dont think so. But it was a "cute" story.
This.
It was a very good 2-hr episode of the series.
I'm kind of glad they didn't get too maudlin, or throw in a gratuitous cliffhanger.
Wonderful actors.
If I had time, I'd make a reel of all of Lady Mary's eyerolls, they're awesome.
