Basically I don't like the special edition changes in the Star Wars movies, and I want to go back to when I was a kid and see the originals for what they are. But is that possible at all?

It's out there on at least one of file sharing sites according to the article I read. You can also download a bootleg of the Star Wars Holiday Special, so I've heard, which is also on Youtube.

Sure... If you're willing to shell out $249.95 for a brand new copy of the original trilogy where each movie has a copy of the unedited version.(Or pay less for used copies.)...

https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Tri.../dp/B001EN71DG

However, in the first November 6, 2016 review by Anthony G it says...

Make sure you are getting the version in the pic with this post. This has the original 1977,1980,1983 theatrical versions on the SECOND disc. Definitely worth the $80 I pain for it, I got it used but it was in incredible condition. Definitely worth seeing the original unedited versions of classic films.

Or you could purchase brand new copies of each individual movie in the original trilogy, which at this time, all three would only cost you $223.91...

Also, I just noticed that there are new copies of the above three movies which would cost you less than $223.91.

Pedantically, 1977 was different than any of the re-releases of "A New Hope," even before the CGI invasion. George didn't like the "Open the blast doors!" that came immediately after the "Close the blast doors!" and removed it, at least for a while. The 1977 audience laughed at it, as it was almost like cartoon slapstick.

It's easy and cheap, if you don't mind VHS. I see early copies of the original trilogy at thrift stores all the time.

The problem with VHS or some of these other copies floating around online is that they are 4:3, where was I want to see the movie in it's 2:39:1 aspect ratio. Is that possible, with the original cut anywhere, even as a special feature on any DVD releases?

The original cuts never have been available in widescreen anywhere, as far as I know. All of the DVDs listed above feature the edited versions in 2.39:1, but the original cut on each one is 4:3.

Oh okay, but which DVD releases have the 4:3 original cuts on? I cannot find any.

From the description:

Quote:
What do you lose by watching the 1977 version? Dolby Digital 5.1 EX sound, for one thing (only 2.0 Surround here). Digital cleanup for another--Tatooine looks like it's been coated with an additional layer of sand cloud. But for home-theater owners, the biggest frustration will be from the non-anamorphic picture. On a widescreen TV, an anamorphically enhanced (16x9) picture at a 2.35:1 aspect ratio will fill the screen with the exception of small black bars on the top and bottom. The original edition of Star Wars, however, is not anamorphically enhanced (sometimes referred to as "4:3 letterbox"), so on a widescreen TV it will have large black bars on the top, the bottom, and the sides unless you stretch the picture (and distort it in the process, especially considering the substandard picture quality). If you're watching on a standard square-shaped (4:3) TV, though, you won't notice a difference.
But scrolling a little farther I saw this in the description:

Quote:
Disc 2:
**Widescreen Feature (For Both Versions Full Screen and Widescreen) - original theatrical movie version in dolby 2.0 surround
**XBox Playable Game Demo
**Lego Game Trailer
So quite frankly I really don't know what to think.
