No because Jimmy Gandolfini is gone and he in my opinion is the one and only Tony Soprano . sorry but this is such an awful idea .

Gandolfini could not have played Tony as a little kid. The prequel is set in the '60s.

Eh, Tony WAS the Sopranoes imo, anything without him wouldnt be worth watching. The only thing that could possibly work is going with an AJ, all grown up now sort of thing, that could have some potential.

Not to mention, even if Gandolifini was alive, I doubt he would play Tony again, as he stated many times, he did not like playing Tony, due to how he treated women.

This is a prequel, meaning it precedes the series.

Doesn't matter. A show that is based on the Soprano name and does not have Gandolfini playing Tony is not going to work. End of story.

right, because De Niro did such a horrible job with Brando's character in Godfather II

They waited too long for this. I feel they could have done a spin-off of the NY crew and link the last episode of the Sopranos to the last episode of the spin-off. (while James while still alive)

I agree the HBO series was perfect and should not be messed with. But a prequel feature film featuring Tony's dad Johnnie Boy Soprano and Uncle Junior back in their prime? I am in.
