Eh, Tony WAS the Sopranoes imo, anything without him wouldnt be worth watching. The only thing that could possibly work is going with an AJ, all grown up now sort of thing, that could have some potential.
Not to mention, even if Gandolifini was alive, I doubt he would play Tony again, as he stated many times, he did not like playing Tony, due to how he treated women.

This is a prequel, meaning it precedes the series.
They waited too long for this. I feel they could have done a spin-off of the NY crew and link the last episode of the Sopranos to the last episode of the spin-off. (while James while still alive)
I agree the HBO series was perfect and should not be messed with. But a prequel feature film featuring Tony's dad Johnnie Boy Soprano and Uncle Junior back in their prime? I am in.
