Yes, I found that really strange and unrealistic. I wondered if I had misinterpreted that scene.

My wife and I watched it Friday night. Overall we both thought it was a pretty good movie. She did not like the ending and I thought many things were unrealistic, most which have already been mentioned. Rockwell did an awesome job playing officer douche, and Francis M. always does a great job. It was funny seeing Napoleon Dynamite's Grandma hasn't changed much since that roll. The Chief and wife dynamic was a bit off, she was way to hot and way to young for him.

Okay, something I have been wondering about and can't get out of my head; why does Mildred's son ask her if birds get cancer when they are riding in the car? What is the point of that conversation? I assume it is supposed to relate to Chief Willoughby somehow, but haven't been able to put it together.

So that's where I saw her before! She was good!

The Verdict--Sidney Lumet directing, David Mamet screenwriter
Paul Newman, Charlotte Rampling (so ethereal), James Mason (an elegant devil), Lindsay Crouse in a career making role
Redemption of an ambulance chasing, alcoholic failed attorney
Doesn't get much better

In a large city, yes, but not necessarily in a small town.

Clarke Peters character (US Marshall) witnessed the incident and his upright character would have done something.

Watched this tonight, thought it was an entertaining film. Didn't over analyze it, it's a movie.
