X-Men ought to be a TV show. Spider-Man too. The problem: Most TV shows don't generally have the budget required to tell those stories correctly.
Too much money for effects. Some people complain about bad special effects on The Flash as is or Inhumans. Add in a bunch for different mutants and boom. Luckily with from what I know about Legion and Gifted, they are low effect shows that don't look bad.
I'm hearing consistent chatter that discontent in NY is reaching critical levels, first with the dysfunction and Ratner-related problems in Burbank, and now that once again, they have to make due with half a loaf. The bloom of Warners' amazing summer seems to have faded, and with the Day of the Telephone People stuck in call waiting, it's a good moment for the powers to turn on each other with a renewed fury.
DC is also mired in a host of post-Harvey problems. On the film side, they have to deal with extricating WW from the hands of Ratner, a move their leading lady has publicly demanded. The comic books arm just this week fired its long time editor, Eddie Berganza after harassment allegations. And in the TV division, one place where DC is eating Marvel's lunch, the bell just tolled for the showrunner of Flash. That's a lot on the table!
There's all sorts of scuttlebutt about the way forward for DC post-League: that Whedon's Batgirl is...unthinkable at this point; that they'll now turn the whole thing over to James Wan if Aquaman goes well; that they might just make it a Wonder Woman universe.
There are wheels within wheels within wheels in every turn of the Warners studio this week and we'll see where it all lands soon enough. Or more likely, not soon enough.
According to this source, Batgirl was taken away from Joss months ago. I guess it's not his jam anymo'!

Kevin Feige says Avengers 4 (meaning the movie after Infinity War) will be a "finale" for the MCU, i.e. some characters will exit the franchise.

Moviegoers, for now, will simply have to trust in Feige. Luckily for Marvel obsessives, the 44-year-old studio executive is one of them. “At the heart of Kevin is a real”—Scarlett Johansson paused before using the same word everyone does to describe her boss—“fanboy.”
I sure hope it is a total and complete reboot and not a, "Henceforth the character of Iron Man will be played by Actor XYZ."
I'd love to see Marvel get the rights back to X-Men, the FF, and Spidey and do a reboot for a complete and wholistic Marvel movie-verse. And please keep Bryan Singer and Joss Whedon a million miles away from any of it.
Some characters will remain. They're not doing a wholesale reboot.
Marvel getting back those IPs will be a mixed bag. Wolverine will constantly chew a cigar and go "Bub." I mean every scene. Nightcrawler will be written as the X-Men's comic relief.
It would probably help the FF immensely. They'd benefit the most. But you'll never see a movie like Logan again.
