For live-action movies, the directors need to seriously rethink the need for "costumes" anyway. It is REALLY hard not to make them look goofy.
I understand why Superman has a costume. It isn't a costume. That's Kryptonian clothes. Batman's suit is not only an arsenal but a disguise intended to intimidate criminals and give him an edge. Spidey comes right out of the amateur wrestling circuit, so it is inherently goofy. All good reasons.
But why would the X-men don costumes? Why Daredevil? It doesn't makes much sense. You can pull it off in animation, but in live action a great deal of goofy comes through no matter what you do.
You mean the more famous X-Men individual costumes and not the earlier Xavier school uniforms? In the latter the case for being outsiders rejected by the general population needs to be shown.
In the MCU Tony Stark was a showman. Captain America dealing with being seen as a joke by combat soldiers and Thor probably an Asgardian uniform. Most everybody else in the MCU is in a uniform of some sort from SHIELD to Kree.

Well some X costumes are just stupid. The large X on the X Factor like uniform for instance. IMHO the First Class uniforms were awesome and even the black ones from the original movies. That said the Wolverine mask wouldn't work in those but how often does Captain America take off his?
