I loved the first movie. It still holds up. The last one wasn't half-bad. All the sequels in between were a waste of time and money.

As I am a member of the Vietnam War generation and a Marine during that time the film has always resonated with me on a personal level. It reflects a kind of rage that a lot of us felt coming back from South East Asia to the US.

One thing unnoticed in the movie is Dennehys character is a Korean War vet so there is a little bit of "my war was better than your war". You can kind of hear it in his voice when he says "you think Rambo was the only kid who had a tough time in Vietnam?" The way he says Vietnam...

It also promoted the "crazy 'Nam vet" theme.

It's really underrated as heck for entertainment value.

I'd say, the time is ripe for a whole new generation to discover the guilty pleasure that is "Rambo"...

It's also funny to view old clips, and see Stallone's dry, 100% guilt-free stance on wholesale violence. Long live Rambo!
