I'm watching The Exorcist, the original version with Linda Blair. It's as scary as it was back in the day. I'm guessing I won't sleep very well tonight.
The special effects are amazing, and much better than I remember. This movie was made way before computers did everything.
If you haven't watched The Exorcist lately, do yourself a favor and rent the DVD. Don't watch it alone....no matter how old you are. This thing really IS as creepy as it gets.

Watch the special addition with the added footage and subliminal flashes. I thought the original on VHS was scary, Then I watched "The version you've never seen" It's actually more disturbing.

I didn't know there was one with added footage. I watched a VHS tape. I still have a combo VHS/DVD player. t had a half-hour of behind the scenes stuff. Very interesting.
The scene I remembered the most from decades ago was when Father Carras watched his mother climb up from the subway stairs. The face of a demon flashed for a split-second. It scared the hell out of me back then, and it did the same thing today.

Captain Howdy! yes, I never forgot it either. The way it stood out in the dark background during the brief viewing.
Much trivia for the Exorcist as well. The mother during the scene where she fell and was being cornered by the moving cabinet injured her tailbone; The scream she lets out is real.
The director would fire a gun on set to keep the actors on edge also. I also heard ambulances were parked outside the theaters to help those who would pass out from fear!
The good old school days of horror films! I wish I could have seen the Exorcist in theaters but I was not born yet. between a love of 70's rock music and films, I missed all the cool stuff!
Me and my boyfriend at the time waited in a LONG line in the rain to see The Exorcist at the theater. Another couple met us on the inside and they left halfway through the movie because the girl was pregnant and it was too scary for her. When Linda Blair spit out the pea soup and twisted her head around the whole place screamed. Seeing it on a movie screen was something else!

Yep.
Although I am going to be the pain that everyone hates, but I'm going to do it anyway and tell you all: READ THE BOOK. The book is soooooooo much better. Much more depth and subtlety.
Or you might even check out the audiobook, read by Peter Blatty himself. Very, very well done.
Linda Blair coming down the stairs - yikes. Wish I knew how to post the scene - anyone?
