I don't see any research on this but there is no reason why you can't give an opinion.
On opening weekends, will Christian religious movies like "Son of God" do better or worse (box office-wise) on a Sunday? That is, do you think Christian religious people are more likely or less likely to see an opening weekend Christian religious film on the day they attend church?
I'm thinking about opening weekend box office predictions. Usually, with non-religious movies, which are most of them, Friday box office gives a clue how movies will perform on opening weekend but maybe Christian religious movies do better (or worse) on Sundays than other days of the weekend which would make predictions based on Friday box office wrong. What do you think? Same as any other movie or is there a Sunday factor to consider when predicting box office for these religious movies?
I know a lot of deeply religious people who are very clear in their minds about keeping their Sabbath Day (Sunday) holy -- they wouldn't go to a movie theatre on a Sunday.
Opening weekend projections for 'Son Of God' range from $25.9M to $28M, good for second place behind the $30M or thereabouts projected box-office take for 'Non-Stop'.

Thanks, good point. So far, you're the only one that addressed the actual question.
I haven't seen the movie yet as I don't watch them outside of my home. So, I can only post what others have said about it. Here's one from @ Film review: Son of God « Hot Air that appears to give it a good rating. And, it made good money, $9.4 million as per 'Son of God' Earns $9.4 Million at Box Office and a search for reviews shows a mixed bag.

The problem with so many (dare I say most?) so-called "religious" movies is that they just aren't very good. Hollywood no longer knows how to make high quality movies based on religious source material.
Can anyone name any really good religious movies made in the past 20 years? I can't. (Granted, I have yet to see The Passion, which I've heard is very good.)
