I can't stick with just five. These movies have an overtly religious theme and I enjoyed them all, not listed in any particular order:
Life of Pi
Chariots of Fire
Michael
The Apostle
A Man for All Seasons
The Last Temptation of Christ
Seven Years in Tibet
Babette's Feast
Dead Man Walking
Glory Glory....this was a really well done 1989 made for tv flick with Richard Thomas, Ellen Greene and James Whitmore in the leads. It is about a failing church which strikes gold when they recruit an aspiring rock singer (Greene) to pose as a singing faith healer.
Life of Brian
Jesus Camp
The Ten Commandments
(some film about a child in Tibet who was taken from his family to live with the monks. It was wonderful but I can't locate the title)
Mediocre:
Saved
The Scarlet and the Black
Jesus Christ Superstar
Godspell (soundtracks of these two are classics, films less so)
The Small Miracle
Dogma
Awful:
Religulous
What the Bleep Do We Know
I always thought that more films should show contemporary Christian culture, if only to educate the rest of the country (who didn't grow up with it) as to the many intricacies of the culture. Mostly you just hear who they're likely to vote for.
