Anyone really looking forward to "12 Years a Slave"? Or has anyone seen it? It opened at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews and it is supposed to get a limited release in the US on October 18. I am hoping to travel to LA to see it.
I love Steve McQueen's movies (I have seen both "Hunger" and "Shame") and I am a big fan of Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch. Chiwetel Ejiofor is also an extremely talented actor.
I just wondered if anyone else was excited for it!! It is clearly Oscar bait but we'll see how good it really is...
I'm looking forward to it. I read the book and it was a very good read. If it even remotely follows the book it is going to be much more brutal and honest than Django was. It will be interesting to see how the movie portrays his thoughts and mind state that is in the book.
Mod Note: Let's not make this personal please. You can debate the movie but not each other. Forum Rules (TOS) can be found via the Link below in my signature line. Thank you for participating in our forums.
I just heard heard about this movie on NPR this morning. What makes the book and movie interesting is that there are very few actual accounts by the victims of slavery that exist. The fact that the man was free and educated and was kidnapped into slavery for 12 years and later wrote a book about the experience is pretty amazing. I plan to see it. I hear it's not for the fainthearted, though.
