Last night, I saw an old movie by Roman Polanski called Bitter Moon, has anyone seen it? I caught it last night on a cable channel & was really mesmerized by it. It has Hugh Grant-pre-prostitute era & Kristin Scott Thomas.

Really captivating film...thoughts?

looks interesting. ebert didn't hate it: Bitter Moon Movie Review & Film Summary (1994) | Roger Ebert

But Polanski directs it without compromise or apology, and it's a funny thing how critics may condescend to it, but while they're watching it you could hear a pin drop.

Hiya, CdO...

I did see this film in the theatre when it originally came out in '92. Depressing story & Peter Coyote isn't my favorite actor, at least not as the bitter old man he was in this film. I thought that although mismatched as a couple (don't know why, just didn't buy it), Grant & Thomas were great in their parts. Kristen is a beauty, imho & a wonderful actress. Saw her in a French-speaking film or 2... her French is very good, as were the movies, although, like this one, a bit on the depressing side.

However, I do know what you mean on it being mesmerizing... Polanski's wife, Emmanuelle Signer is stunning on screen & even moreso in the '88 film 'Frantic' with Harrison Ford, if you've never seen it. Gorgeous woman, great actress. Loved her since 'Tess'.

That's the one!

A truly despicable human being. But he's a great director. Has there ever been an actor with enough integrity not to work for the guy?

Never thought of that, but I'm going to check it out. I wonder if actors have done the same with Woody Allen?

An interesting film is Roman Polanski: Wanted & Desired, a documentary about that trial. It was eye opening... I was too small & didn't know most of the details of the trial. It should still be free on either Hulu or YTube.
