The original Star Wars--
The entire audience at the first screening I saw made audible reaction--
Touch of Evil by Orson Welles...one of the longest single camera tracking shots in movie history
Definitely Star Wars.
As the film opens the audience reads the prolog trailing off to infinity. Then the point of view pitches down to put us right into the action of the movie. Unforgettable over forty years later.
I saw that for the first time at the Galaria in Houston--
A very large and upscale theater
It was a large audience--packed--so like over 300 people probably
And I still remember the gasp of everyone in the audience when that space cruiser filled the screen...
It was one of the most UNIFYING moments I have experienced in a movie...
I guess the scene in Gone with the Wind when Clark Gable as Rhett Butler tells Scarlett that he doesn't give a damn probably caused the same intake of breath...
But that isn't opening scene...
Apocalypse Now - the song played just helped make the scene.
Saving Private Ryan (battle scene)
Blade - again, music played a big part in how cool this scene is.
The Replacement Killers - again , music influenced this.
