All Quiet on the Western Front
It Happened One Night
You Can't Take It With You
^^^Interesting, three of my favorite films

Gone With The Wind
Casablanca
The Sound of Music
Chariots of Fire
The Silence of the Lambs
Forrest Gump
Braveheart
Titanic
Shakespeare in Love (seriously? That actually won?!)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

There's a mostly vacant gap in my list from the 50s until recent times. That's because I was in high school in the 90s and watched movies that were new at the time, and starting around 2005-2006 I started watching older movies and completely lost interest in current stuff.

Is there a reason you left some off your list? Like all the ones before 1939? Several from the 40s? 1956? 1985? 1998? 2010-2011?

Anyway, is it sad that I've only seen 7 best picture winners?

The ones above!
Damn! Really interesting thread. Some comments:
- Saw some with my Dad, because of the age issue
- thought "Summer of 42" and "The Exorcist" should have won in their respective years
- only liked the sinking sequence in "Titanic;" otherwise very much a chick flick
- thought "Slumdog Millionaire" was WAY more disturbing than "Silence of the Lambs," which at the time I thought was almost on par with "Seven" for being grisly
- my favorite of the ones I've seen is actually "American Beauty;" more so than the others, it was a film about life

I saw that movie twice in high school. Not sure why it wasn't in the OP or maybe I missed it?

Actually, I think there have been a lot of excellent movies since the 2000s. I really don't understand why people say current movies are bad. It wasn't like every movie that came out during the 20s-60s was great either. We only remember the best ones and I think future generations will have a lot of great movies to remember from our current era.

Do best foreign film Oscar recipients count?

"Cinema Paradiso," bar none.

Oh I'm not saying there haven't been any good movies since the mid 2000s, I just haven't seen any of the Best Picture winners and it's not something I ever really think about. I'd probably like some of them if I ever saw them.
