I really loved Borgnine!
He was one of the few actors who could do everything well, and though he was most often not the star, he made any movie he was in more memorable than it could have been. He was equally excellent as hero or villain, and his gusto for both made every part he played vivid.
Some of my faves:
The Vikings
Marty
The Wild Bunch
The Poseidon Adventure (which would have been terrible without him!)
Spartacus
Ernest didn't start acting until he was in his 30's. He played many highly physical roles as a 50 and 60 year old man, an age when most actor's careers are beginning to wind up. He was always very grateful for his many fans, and was never pretentious or demanding in real life. I'm glad I got to see him in his films, and I'm glad he had a long and happy life.

Not Spartacus, he was not in that. Believe the poster may have been thinking of Demetrious and the Gladiators (1954) another historical epic set in the early Roman era. In that film he played the part of a gladiator trainer.
I remember him most from Marty, the Poseiden Adventure and the TV series McHale's Navy (he was in the original movie, too) but I liked him in the Dirty Dozen best.
