As a MAJOR Stephen King fan (have all his books and then some)
90% of his movies suck. They come across amazing in story but putting them on screen it loses alot of what makes them special.
His best would have to be Misery.
AND (though this one was not a book but written for the screen) Storm of the Century. That miniseries was GREAT!!!!!!.
Pet Semetary wasn't done too bad by the book.
The Stand wasn't too bad. Actors didn't fit how he/I pictured them in the book (IMO) but all around the telling of it on screen was definitely passable.
Worst? IMO almost all.
The Shining was horrid. JN was terrible as Jack and they screwed the entire ending up. Movie wasn't creepy at all.
Carrie... just ugh
Christine.. one of his best books and the movie was ridiculous
Running Man .... NOTHING like the book. They changed to premise completely.
Needful Things .. My FAVE SK book and they demolished it in the movie. Unwatchable.
The Mist... .Short story was creepy and well told. Movie SUCKED, SUCKED AND SUCKED.. especially the ending!!
Secret Window (Secret Garden).. they even screwed up the title and JD DID NOT fit the role. boring.
It. .... ruined another of one of my all time fave King stories. Characters were all annoying in the movie and they cut too much out.
SK movies I'd LOVE to see on the screen (if done right w/the right director and cast?)
My favorites would have to be 'The Shining' and 'Stand By Me'.
The worst? 'Children of the Corn'. And that was a genuinly creepy story, but the film was nothing like the story, they changed the characters and the ending. The movie was just terrible!
