For me, it's "Murphy's Romance" (1985). It stars James Garner (Murphy) and Sally Field (Emma). It's set in a small southwestern town. Emma has a son (Corey Haim) and a worthless ex-husband (Brian Kerwin). She is trying to start over.

Murphy is a widower, owns a pharmacy, plays a fiddle, and is a handsome, smart, middle-aged man (nearly 30 years older than Emma).

Murphy and Emma's romance goes from friendship, to admiration, to deep friendship, and finally - yay! - LOVE. The ending is soooo sweet.

Please find this movie. It's worth it. It's sweet.

If only real life was so nice and sweet. This movie offers the hope that sometimes it CAN be.

The Shawshank Redemption, love that movie. Especially at the end when he is driving the open-top car wearing a white shirt, looking all relaxed...enjoying his freedom after serving so many decades in the prison on wrong charges....you can just feel it !!

It's a Wonderful Life (my favorite feel-good movie of all time--the message that your life has meaning)
Amelie (makes you want to perform anonymous little random acts of kindness)
The Blindside (very different people from different backgrounds can transform each other's lives)
The Pursuit of Happyness (overcoming adversity through individual determination and hard work, not expecting a hand out)
War Horse (just saw it--a kids' story, but a lesson in strength and friendship)
Pay it Forward (makes you want to do random acts of kindness to make the world a better place)
The Shawshank Redemption (the importance of living with patience and dignity, even when faced with injustice)
Always (makes you think about unselfishly helping others and appreciating the life you were given)
Mr. Holland's Opus (makes you think about all the people you've positively affected in your life without really knowing it)

Stardust... I mean, Robert DeNiro as a cross-dressing pirate, Michelle Pfeiffer as an evil witch, Ricky Gervais and a nice little romance story (which I don't usually like) .... what's not to love?
