My wife is a fan of JS and loved it. I thought it was just a passable time consumer similar to a good SciFi film.
I think he peaked with the first Transporter. Everything since has been a rendition of that film and not for the better.
Still, unlike the 1980s/1990s, there are no other action stars to compete. I mean now we have Ryan Reynolds as tough guy as was presented in Safe House? Everytime I see him I am reminded of Monty in "Waiting"
Guy Pearce did a good job as Kurt Russell like revamp in Lockout. If anyone is undecided for the coming weekend.
I had a feeling you were talking about Safe, I noticed it's in the theaters now, I may go check it out within the next week or so. I don't think it will offer anything new but I am a Jason Statham fan. Also, the plot slightly reminds me of Man on Fire with Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. Not the exact same storyline, yes, but same overarching theme...
He was cool in Guy Richie movies and actually played a relatively different characters, in his later, tough cool guy action movies, he is pretty much the same exact character with a different name, even his bloody accent and scruffy look is the same! His acting is sub par at best considering he is playing the same damn character in every movie.
He is short, scrawny (though some probably think he is big and muscular) and balding yet he gets called "hot" or "a pretty face" which amuses me.

I agree... although I did like Transporter 2 and 3. But the other movies he's done are just not up to par... The Cranks, Fast, The Mechanic, and Death Race.
He does always have beautiful co-stars to make up for the movies not being up to pap though....
