I just saw the trailer for the new Tim Burton/Johnny Depp "Dark Shadows".
As a huge fan of the old gothic soap, I really thought it looked awful.
They made it in to a comedy! I find that rather blasphemous.
I don't know if I will be able to watch it, even though I really like Johnny Depp.
What do you think? Is anyone looking forward to this?

The bolded comment-that is EXACTLY what I said to my husband in the movie theater when we saw the trailer. As much as I love Johnny Depp, I don't think I can bring myself to see this.
I'm not a fan of Johnny Depp or Tim Burton, so I don't hold much optimism for this movie being anything groundbreaking, thought provoking, or even enjoyable.
You gotta admit, from a camp standpoint, Dark Shadows had its hilarious moments. Although most of them were caused by poor production, overacting, and cheap set construction. LOL
Hollywood lately seems to have a penchant for re-making old TV dramas and turning it into screwball comedies like Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels, 21 Jump Street and now Dark Shadows. What's next, Little House on the Prarie starring Wanda Sykes??

That's the word for this movie in a nutshell - camp. Tim Burton took a "campy" series like "Batman" and made it into a dark movie - now he's taking a goth soap and making it campy.
There's no way I can avoid seeing or at least hearing about this movie - my youngest daughter is a Burtonite (she worships at the temple of TIM). If I do see it, I hope it's at the drive-in - if it is boring and terrible I can at least curl up and sleep in the car.
I have never seen the TV series so I'll go to the movie as I have no vested interest. It looks funny, which is more than can be said about Sweeney Todd.
Though I was suprised they turn DS into a comedy, it does indeed look quite funny, but I'll see it when comes out on DVD. Really enjoyed some of Depps lines in the trailers I've seen.
