Russell Crowe has been cast to play Noah in an upcoming film directed by Darren Aronofsky set for release in 2014. I just don't see this being a success. I'm going to have visions prematurely of Steve Carell playing in "Evan Almighty" except with a more serious tone. My prediction initially just based on the news story is a flop in the making.
Given that this is Aronofsky, it may well be a lot more surreal than a film like Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven. Which is good, given the subject matter.
He did Black Swan right? That was pretty good, don't know what else he's done. I like Russel but not all that many of the films he's been in, he doesn't seem to pick roles that play to the type of acting strenghts I think he has versus everybody else's view of 'lets get Gladiator to do this now"
A little too early in the prediction, don't you think? I do find the analogy with Steve Almighty funny though (and you make a good point) but don't forget this is a major Biblical story and with a good director and good actor like Russell Crowe and of course millions of dollars worth of good sets it is still too early to say that this will be a failure. I bet a lot of devoted Catholics and movie-lovers alike will look forward to watching this once they start showing some nice trailers in the previews .

It might not be. Sadly, Russell's last few movies have been essentially flops.
I don't know if he's just making bad choices, or what, but I will still see anything he's in.

He did indeed. But I haven't yet seen Black Swan.
He also did Requiem for a Dream, which is one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. Don't watch it while in a cold medicine induced haze. It'll freak you out big time.
He also did The Fountain, which I quite liked despite one major flaw. Again, very surreal.
He also did The Wrestler and The Fighter, which I have not seen. But both have very good reputations.
Haven't seen any of those but The Fighter was the Wahlberg film right? I thought that was good.
I was watching...Kimmel? anyway he had the late late late guy something Caron on who was talking about tweeting with Russell Crowe who has apparently been working out to get ready for playing the cop in Les Miz which is apparently. Whether you like him or not you got to admire his work ethic.

Yeah, I do see practically everything that he is in but your right, his last movies at best have been average both in quality and box office take.
