Yeah, I kept putting off watching it when my son mentioned watching it because it didn't sound good and the previews didn't look that good to me. But we did watch it and I really liked it. The whole family really enjoyed it. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. Had a real good story and it was also funny.
I can judge only by the first half. At that point, my mother asked, "Do we have to finish this one?" I said, "Definitely not!" and changed the channel.
I saw all of the behind the scenes aired in order to push the film and had a baaaad feeling when they talked about how they threw out chunks of the script in order to improvise. Well, I don't know what the original script was like, but the part I saw could be compared to that proverbial train wreck. I had a feeling that it was bad enough to merit a sequel. I didn't even bother to take a look at it.
Here's a dissenting vote. I honestly hoped it would be an enjoyable escapist film but came away thinking what a horrible waste of money to make such a bad movie. I wonder how much of the sequel also was improvised.
C+. Just barely watchable in theaters, and I remember there was that highly visible microphone shadow at the top of the screen; the crowd cracked up at that. I'd forgotten that a very old Dick van Dyke was in it; he was pretty amusing I guess.
Keeping the Faith is the only Ben Stiller movie that I plan to see again at some point.
I enjoyed it and have seen it more than once. I like the first one better than the second.
