I agree with others that the Swedish movie was very good, interesting plot.Yes, by our standards it was "slow". It does seem most Americans judge movies by their own and dont give those evil subtitles a shot. Whats wrong with a quck read of lines? Better then a dubbed movie. You really deny yourself some wonderful movie experiences.
On the other hand, ridiculous to toy with a movie only 2 years old, and a screenplay written by the author of the book-(-how rare is that?) just because we dont like to read lines.

I am going to stand up for my fellow American movie buffs and say that I watch plenty of subtitled movies and find many of them excellent. I didn't care for this particular one, however. There were some good bits but overall I just thought the pacing was too slow.
I will agree that many people dismiss them without giving them a chance.

I love foreign flicks. But Let the Right One In was a bore. It was like watching icicles drip.
The movie also had a very pedophilic tone throughout that I found very icky.
When I watch a good vampire movie, I want to feel like malevolent things are waiting for me in the shadows. Watching Let the Right One In, I felt like Roman Polanski was waiting for me in the shower.
Finally got around to watching "Let the Right One In"
It was a pretty good movie... but not great. I would give it 7/10. More of a romance / friendship movie than a horror movie... I did like how the vampire was a traditional vampire in the sense that she "had to be invited in" to enter a room. Seems like most vampire movies these days pick up on the "sunlight kills vampires" thing, but forget about the "vampires must be invited in thing." I wonder where all these vampire rules originated anyway... (i.e. garlic hurts vampires, crosses hurts them, steak through the heart kills them, sunlight kills them, and they must be invited in to enter an establishment)
I don't know that it was intended to be a horror movie in the sense that Americans think of horror movies, which is what I liked about it. It was about the relationship between Oskar and Eli. And on the "traditional vampire" line, I also liked how Eli wasn't a "sexy vampire" as most of the Twilight/True Blood/Vampire Diaries vampires have been. Eli is both old and young, and also a monster who does gross and violent things to live.
