No experience with the Scrambler, but my folks own a Speedmaster and an America, so I'm familiar with the brand and the motor. Pretty good bikes (no major mechanical failures), but down on power given the displacement IMO. Still, they like them because they're not another HD or Japanese wannabe. Plus they're pretty darn cheap.

For the first time bike rider, get something you can handle. The crouch rockets, well, the question you have to ask yourself is just how quick do you want to die. Get yourself a mid size crusier one that fits you based on your size.
