I think motorcycles should have a limit to how loud they can be. I don't believe for one second that people prefer loud bikes to aid in safety. I also think that some people who ride their bikes are like little children with a toy. How is it being safe revving your bike up every time you get underneath an overpass? How is it any different then kids with loud music/bass emitting from their cars? I live about a 1/4 mile from a major highway an its ridiculous how loud some of these bikes are! The worst is the on ramps. Just my 2 cents.

Loud pipes saving lives is about as stupid as one can get. First, noise behind you is noise unheard.
"Loud pipes save lives" is a bit overrated. But the way I look at it is that any advantage I can get - even an exaggerated advantage - is still an advantage. When I ride, I try to make myself as visible as possible and people still pull out in front of me.
I've heard Harleys that I thought were too loud. And I'm not defending people that sit in their driveway and just rev their bike for an hour. But "noise behind you is noise unheard." isn't always true. I've heard bikes coming up behind me before. Probably the same type of bikes yall are complaining about. If me living to see tomorrow means that you are slightly annoyed - I'm fine with that.
Also, lots of bikes need to be reved at stop to keep the engine running. Unless you want to sit through a green light while someone has to restart their bike.
If these riders are so concerned about saving lives, then why do they mostly wear black when other colors (e.g. red) are easier for other drivers to see?
The ones with loud pipes are. It's incredibly excessive and obnoxious. It's usually a bunch of a holes and one of them has to have a loud radio playing as well.
