Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an automatic trike available?
Call it a mid life crisis. My dh has a ural which is a cool little bike. But it would be cool to trade it in and get a proper bike and then I would also get a trike. It seems that a trike has better control (at least for me).
For the automatic specification, you could get a Silverwing or Burgman scooter and convert it with Danson, Voyager or Tow Pac kit.
Triking a bike gives you the assurance that you aren't going to fall over, but there is a difference in handling over a 2-wheeler. I've read that some trike conversions make turning more laborious. And you have to watch the corners. At too high a speed, you may flip - though, handling the bike in such a fashion is part of learning to ride it.
I've been a sidecarist for 10+ years. Putting one those on a bike definitely turns the vehicle into a different creature, but I enjoy hacking more than I ever did 2-wheeling. Plus I have the extra room for taking stuff when I do long trips.
I have a trike. It is very cumbersome to manouver. I was much happier with two wheels. For another $1,000 (I've already spent $20k for the trike) I can get Steerite, which will make the steering easier.
The Can Am's just dont do it for me with the front wheels.
They're easy to steer (especially if you make sure the handlebars have risers so you don't lean into the console so much), but the shifting can be persnickety. I've stalled out more times with ours than any other clutch-driven bike.
I love my dh's ural. Its a great feeling to be sitting there just riding out thru the countryside with him.
