Thanks for creating this thread, KoobleKar. I'm a fan of the Triumph brand and have ridden quite a few of the current models. All are wonderful in their own way.
A friend of mine who helped me get into motorcycling owns a 2001 Thunderbird; he got it as a basket case. Original owner crashed it with less than 150 miles on the odometer. Now, it looks like a piece of jewelry and it runs perfectly. Did all the work himself in his garage. Several times I've offered him $100 for it but - - he refuses to sell it.
It's sad that the west coast is not feeling the "love"; I'm in eastern PA and there are two Triumph dealers within 30 minutes of my house. They often offer demo rides, have open houses and parties to introduce a new model or promote some other incentive.
I've seen virtually all models here and about throughout the year regardless of weather or temperature. Nice bunch of people, the Triumphiles, to boot!
While some bike manufacturers are not producing new bikes at all, Triumph (I believe) is about to introduce 11 new models for the upcoming model year.
Yes, I also think that you meet pretty good people on Triumphs. It's definitely a different crowd (and please don't anyone take that to mean I'm putting down others). For one thing though, even their sportbikes don't seem to attract the SQUIDS.
I live in Virginia, on the coast. There are lots and lots of used Triumphs for sale here all the time, and it seems all in excellent shape. Not that they are bad bikes, its just that there are a lot in the area. I happen to like a model most dont care for, the Scrambler. I like the 2 high pipes on one side. Back in '74 I had a new Honda CL 360 with the high pipes and I loved it. It loved a twisty dirt road, hang the back out a little bit, (most of my 30+ yrs. of riding was when I lived in NC, with lots of dirt roads). I have been ridding dirt 500/600cc 2 and 4 strokes on/ off road bikes ever since, with a few streets bikes here and there. I just like the looks of the Scrambler. Too bad they screwed up the color selection a few years back, but the engine detail is excellent, not sand cast looking or threw together and covered up with fairings.
